Yesterday I highlighted some of the top colors that out-produced the average for all species caught. Today I’ll start drilling down some specifics for each species. Let’s start with walleye.
Here are the top 5 colors pertaining to walleye:
Yellow & White 12 fish per hour
Orange 8 fish per hour
Pink 6 fish per hour
Chartreuse 6 fish per hour
White 6 fish per hour
These are certainly all colors that come to mind when walleye fishing. Orange is a color that is frequently cited in fishing articles about walleye. Studies have shown this color is most visible on the spectrum to walleye.
One neat thing we can do is throw another variable in the report to see how the data changes. How about the difference in color productivity for walleye between Red Lake and Parker Lake?

Orange 10 fish per hour
White 9 fish per hour
Firetiger 6 fish per hour
Blue 5 fish per hour
Here are the top 5 colors for walleye on Red Lake:
Pink 6 fish per hour
Yellow & Green 6 fish per hour
Blue & Green 6 fish per hour
Chartreuse 6 fish per hour
White 5 fish per hour
Yellow, white, & blue make appearances on both lists, but it is interesting to see how the list changes between lakes. Blue isn’t a color I usually recommend, but there it is on both lists. I will have to do some more experimenting with blue combinations. Next time we’ll take a look at colors for northern pike.
