Getting into the Illinois groove

Hello everyone!

We are starting to feel settled here in Illinois after a few crazy weeks of closing up the lodge, traveling home, unpacking, etc.  I think I’ve said it before, but it gets harder every year to come back to our “other lives”.  I sat through a two hour meeting earlier this week and was super fidgety.  I’m not used to sitting still, being quiet, taking notes, all while wearing clothes other than t-shirts and hoodies.  Five months in the Canadian wilderness can take its toll on you!  I can only imagine how Travis feels as he settles into his desk job.  We forget how spoiled we truly are.

We had a fairly uneventful trip home.  Cosmo did go absolutely berserk at the border window for some reason, which resulted in them waving us right on through.  They did NOT want to deal with us.  Nice work, Cosmo, nice work.  Although as dog parents we were fairly embarrassed and frustrated.

Speaking of the ‘ol pup, here he is yesterday on his birthday.  Happy Birthday, Cosmo!

He turned eight on October 8th!  We celebrated yesterday with extra snuggles and extra treats.  I think he enjoyed it.

How is Cosmo doing, you ask?  Well, we are happy to report he is doing great!  We are still being pretty cautious about the amount of activity he gets each day.  Pretty much just a few trips out to do his business and one short walk around the block.  He loves going out and laying on the front porch in the sun.  Vitamin D is so very important he says.  We are pleased with how his leg seems to be healing, but will still remain vigilant about his recovery over the winter.  It certainly doesn’t seem to bother him or be painful at all – which is what we hoped!  There are certain days when he wakes up a little stiffer and when he sits now his “special” leg kind of flops out to the side.  We affectionately call it his “chicken leg”.  All these things just make him more of the goofball we have come to love.  As long as he is happy, we are happy.

Oh!  Check back in tomorrow for the updated availability on the blog and website, including more details as to how you can secure your trip to Eagle Falls Lodge for 2015!  It will be here before you know it!
