Ontario Angler Awards

Thanks to Phil Krohn for alerting us to a pretty cool program in Ontario to commemorate all of the giant fish you catch and release on your next trip.  It’s called Ontario Angler Awards.

Check out their website here.

You can submit entries online after setting up a free account or mail them in.  Fish must be caught in the same year they are being entered.  You can’t go back and get credit for that lunker you caught in 2012.

The edited table below shows species roaming Red Lake and Parker Lake.  The qualifying length is the minimum length required for submission.  The photo length minimum requires photos of any fish this size to accompany submission.  They also ask for photos next to your measuring device on any particularly large fish.

Species Qualifying Length Photo Length
Lake Trout 26″ (66 cm) 36″ (91.4 cm)
Muskie 36″ (91.4 cm) 44″ (111.8 cm)
Species Qualifying Length Photo Length
Northern Pike 30″ (76.2 cm) 40″ (101.6 cm)
Rock Bass 10″ (25.4 cm) 13″ (33 cm)
Smallmouth Bass 17″ (43.2 cm) 21″ (53.3 cm)
Walleye 25″ (63.2 cm) 32″ (81.3 cm)
Whitefish 22″ (55.9 cm) 26″ (66 cm)
Yellow Perch 12″ (30.5 cm) 14″ (35.6 cm)

Phil said their response was fast and they send a personalized letter, personalized award certificate, and a decal with the year and species of your catch.  If you enter five of the listed species that meet their minimum length requirement you also receive a personalized Avid Angler Award certificate and Avid Angler pin.

The best part is it’s all FREE!  In addition to everything listed above, you have the option to purchase a pin and crest for $10, but don’t have to.  We thought many of you might be interested in this program so thought we’d share.  Thanks for the heads up Phil!
