Winter is still holding on at Eagle Falls Lodge. Snow is falling, the docks are quiet, and the lake is slowly beginning its transition from ice to open water. Every year Mother Nature reminds us who’s really in charge up here in Red Lake, Ontario.
The ice is breaking up, but not fast enough for us to safely get the barge out yet. Until the lake fully opens, everything has to wait. Supplies, equipment, and final preparations are all lined up and ready — we’re just waiting on the water.
Every day brings a little more progress toward opening day. Even with snowflakes still in the air, summer fishing season is getting closer.
The lake is teasing us now — patches of open water, shifting ice sheets, and long stretches that look ready until you get closer. It’s that in-between season that every northern lodge knows well.
Soon enough the boats will be running, the docks will be full, and the first “Fish On!” of the 2026 season will echo across the water.
Until then, we wait on the ice… and keep working.
